The European Parliament met in Strasbourg in plenary session from Monday, 2 July, to Thursday, 5 July. The main points on the agenda were the following: Report of the European Council and declaration of the Commission – Meeting of the European Council of 15/16 June at Göteborg; Declaration of the current Presidency of the Council: balance-sheet of thre Swedish Presidency; Declaration of the current Presidency of the Council – Programme of activities planned by the Belgian Presidency; Discussion and voting on draft directives of the EP and of the Council relating to the activities of pension-fund agencies for freelance workers or their subordinates (rapporteur: Mr. Karas); Vote on the communication of the Commission to the Council and to the EP – Framework strategy on equality between men and women – Programme of work for 2001 (rapporteur: Mr. Figueiredo); Joint discussion – European Central Bank/EURO; Discussion and vote on the annual Report for 2000 of the ECB (rapporteur: Mr. Randzio-Plath); Discussion and vote on the recommendation of the Commission on the means to facilitate the preparation of the business community for the transition to the EURO (rapporteur: Mr. Maaten); Joint discussion – Human rights in the world: Fundamental rights in the Union. Discussion and vote on two reports (Wuori and Cornillet).
