The European Parliament is due to meet in Strasbourg in plenary session from 2 to 5 July. Apart from the presentation of the programme of work by the Belgian Presidency (cf. the previous report), the agenda will include, among other things, the annual report of the President of the European Central Bank, Wim Duisenberg. Of particular importance is also the discussion of human rights: the European Parliament will examine the Wuori report on the Union’s efforts for the promotion of human rights and democracy on a planetary scale and the Cornillet report on the “situation of fundamental rights in the EU“. This report was drawn up in the light of the Charter of Fundamental Rights proclaimed in Nice last December.
