The terrorist attacks in New York: the world’s embrace ” “” “

The World Council of Churches has received hundreds of messages of solidarity with the United States on its Internet site. The messages come from various parts of the world and are signed by all the Christian churches. There are communiqués from the national Council of the Churches in India, from the Anglican Communion and from the World Lutheran Federation. A section is entirely dedicated to the messages written by the organizations of other religions. The World Moslem Congress thus writes: “We hope that the world may now learn to live together and to build bridges for mutual understanding between different peoples, because this world belongs to the Almighty and all men have the right to live. No one is superior or inferior. We are all creatures of Allah. We must learn to respect each other”. “While we condemn these terrible attacks in the strongest terms – concludes the World Muslim Congress – we also express our concern for so many innocent lives, men, women and children in Afghanistan who have already suffered so much over the last twenty years due to the lack of peace in their country”.
