“1000 cities for Europe”: this is the theme chosen for the meeting of European mayors to be held in Innsbruck (Austria) on 9 and 10 November. The guest speakers will include the President of the European Commission, Romano Prodi. Mayors from all over Europe have confirmed their intention to attend. Some 200 youngsters will also be present. Together they will work on the drafting of an “appeal for European unity” aimed at governments which will be delivered to Romano Prodi, in view of the forthcoming meeting of the Council, scheduled to be held in Laeken in Belgium in December. The meeting is being promoted by the president of the Chamber of municipalities at the Council of Europe, Herwig Van Staa, in collaboration with the Movement of Unity, an expression of politico-cultural commitment of the Focolare Movement.
