An international conference, an exhibition and a forum are being planned by the Alcide De Gasperi Foundation for democracy, peace and international cooperation. In the course of the conference to be held in Rome on 22 January, a document published by the Foundation will be presented and discussed: it tackles the international energy problem, and the situation and problems it poses in Italy. The speakers will include the Foundation’s president Angelo Bernassola and its vice-president Maria Romana De Gasperi (the statesman’s daughter). The Foundation is also planning to hold its Third International Forum on the theme : “What are the frontiers of Europe?” at the end of 2002. Preparations have also been begun for an international exhibition sponsored by the Alcide De Gasperi Foundation and dedicated to the great statesman after whom the Foundation is named. It will be aimed at emphasizing the moral stature of De Gasperi as man, as Christian and as politician. The exhibition will be inaugurated in November 2002 and after running for three months in the capital will then tour the principal cities of Italy. The Alcide De Gasperi Foundation for democracy, peace and international cooperation was set up in 1982 as a “cultural association of Christian inspiration for the reinforcement of democracy, freedom and international policy”.The Foundation has promoted meetings and research and maintained contacts with other similar organizations and foundations in Europe, the USA, Latin America and Asia.
