On his return from a mission in Jordan, Egypt, Israel, Syria, Palestine and Lebanon, Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs Josep Piqué confirmed the commitment of the Spanish Presidency of the EU to relaunch the peace process in the Middle East. In spite of the fact that violence and terror continue to form part of everyday life in Israel and Palestine a circumstance which had had led Piqué to call the peace process “moribund” the Minister declared that “no other solution exists than that of continuing along the road of the pursuit of peace, given the fact that it is impossible to seek a military solution” to the conflict. The EU, in cooperation with the USA and the parties directly involved in the conflict, is thus working on a programme aimed at the resumption of dialogue.
