“Pro-Life Week 2002” was presented in Frankfurt in recent days. A joint venture promoted by the Catholic Church and by the Federation of the Evangelic Churches in Germany, the Week will be held from 13 to 20 April 2002. “Do the will of God for man!” is the theme chosen for the event in the next three years. “Choosing life from the beginning rather than selecting it” is the slogan for the theme of this year’s Pro-Life Week, which takes its cue from the current debate on bioethics in Germany. Starting out from the discussion on pre-implant diagnosis and the research on stem cells, the local Churches in the country intend to reaffirm the inviolability and indivisibility of the dignity of man and their commitment to defending every form of human life from the moment of conception. Launched by the German Episcopal Conference and the Central Committee of German Catholics in 1991, the Pro-Life Week has seen the participation also of the Evangelic Churches since 1994; they consider it, as Manfred Kock, president of the Council of Churches has declared, “one of the most successful joint initiatives of the Churches”.
