France: demonstrations for peace” “

Last weekend, 200,000 people took to streets in France in pro-Palestinian and pro-Jewish demonstrations. “It was impossible to remain silent in response to the problems of recent weeks”, declared François Della Sudda, assistant secretary general of the League of Human Rights, in a statement to SirEurope . “We are deeply concerned by the continuous violations of human rights being witnessed in the Middle East. We ask that the resolutions of the UNO be respected as regards the rights both of the Palestinians and of the Israelis so that a just and lasting peace may be secured”. Sunday, 7 April was also a day for pro-Jewish mobilization. “The demonstrations on Sunday wish to express the Jewish community’s condemnation of the antisemitic attacks perpetrated against schools, synagogues or rabbis” in recent days, said Roger Cukierman, president of the CRIF, the Council representing Jewish institutions in France. “These demonstrations also express the support of the Jewish community in France for the achievement of peace and security but not the support of this or that government. There are estimated to be some 600,000 Jews in France, and some 200,000 joined the demonstration on Sunday. We want to make the politicians aware of the fact that we are involved by what is happening and that they arouse deep anxiety in us”.
