Netherlands: the new secretary of the episcopate” “

He’s an expert in management, economics and ethics, the new secretary of the Dutch Episcopal Conference, the 55-year-old Jesuit Fr. Eduard Kimman. After studying at Rotterdam, from 1973 to 1983, Father Kimman travelled and worked in Indonesia, a country in which he devoted himself to specializing in moral theology and in academic works on management. From 1983 to 1985 he studied in the USA, dedicating himself to the study of social ethics at the University of Berkeley. Since 1989 he has taught the ethics of economics and work at the University of Maastricht and at the University of Amsterdam. He is a prolific writer, especially in the fields of the ethics of the market and business management, ethical businesses and Christian social teaching; he has also published some comments on the letters of the American bishops on the economy of the United States. In 1999 he was one of the founders of the Dutch Confederation on “international transparency”, an association for the campaign against corruption. Father Kimman will succeeded the present secretary, Father Stevens, on 1st June.
