Anglicans will also be present at the UN Summit on sustainable development to be held in Johannesburg from 26 August to 4 September. The Anglican Communion has in fact promoted a Congress in the South African capital a week before the beginning of the summit. Representatives of the Anglican Churches will meet in Johannesburg from 18 to 22 August to draft a communiqué that the observer of the Anglican Communion at the UN will present to the Summit. According to the Anglicans, “the impoverishment of the earth and the poverty of the world’s population are not two separate tragedies of modern life but a single reality that must be overcome by a spiritual vision and specific strategies for a sustainable development based on responsibility and human rights”.
