The steep costs of air travel to Toronto have reduced to 12 the participants in WYD from the island of Malta. They are due to arrive there on 14 July and will be the guests of the Maltese consulate in the city. From 18 to 22 July they will be given accommodation by the parish of St. Anne in the diocese of St. Catharines where they will participate in the life and work of the community. On 29 July, at the end of WYD, they will be guests of the Maltese Franciscan Fathers in Downtown, Toronto . The Maltese youth began preparing for their Canadian pilgrimage immediately after Easter with a series of meetings focusing on young saints such as Pier Giorgio Frassati and Teresa of Lisieux. The pilgrimage will end on 3 August. A three-day event, to reflect further on the theme of WYD is planned from 6 to 9 September for those Maltese youngsters who were unable to go to Toronto, with the title “Becoming salt (formation/spirituality). Being light (apostolate)”.
