Belgium: those leaving for Toronto and those staying behind ” “

For those who were unable to depart for Toronto a special event has been planned for Tuesday 23 July in Brussels, when the young are being invited to gather in the cathedral of Saint-Michel. After a celebration in which several bishops will also participate, the young will then leave for Carlsbourg where the “national” WYD will be held from 24 to 27 July. The programme is packed with events of various kind. Moments of catechesis with the bishops, celebrations and meetings of sharing are planned. A “festival” programme of cultural events will also accompany the gathering: workshops, music, dance, sport and initiatives of solidarity. The evenings are reserved for concerts, shows, prayer vigils. On Sunday, on the celebration of the closing of WYD 2002, the invitation is open to everyone, families and friends. But there are also those who have succeeded in leaving for Canada. A few scores of Belgian youth will be present in Toronto and will be participating in WYD. Before leaving, the Belgian delegation wrote a prayer: “We youth, salt of the earth and light of the world, pray to you, O Lord, to spread your good news throughout the world”.
