An appeal to holidaymarkers not to succumb to the passion for speeding and not to drink alcohol before driving has been made by Bishop Georges Gilson of Sens-Auxerre (France). Speed and alcohol – he says – are the main causes of “often fatal road accidents” and are therefore “a sin against oneself and against others”. In June Bishop Gilson promoted a meeting on accident prevention held at the gendarmerie of Sens. “I want he declared in a letter published in the last number of Snop, the monthly bulletin of the French Episcopal Conference to make a strong appeal to holidaymakers, so that reason may always prevail over the “passion and the craze for speed”.
