A joint declaration to combat terrorism and violence and progress together in the pursuit of peace: the text is the initiative of the Commission of Jewish-Catholic dialogue in Switzerland. “We are very disturbed says the joint communiqué by the growing number of violent terrorist attacks of recent months which have occurred just about everywhere in the world. Our solidarity goes to the victims and their families”. The Commission expresses “concern” for an attitude of violence that is manifested “in the young” and that is increasing “in the Western countries”. “It is therefore more than ever urgent to prevent a rapid and uncontrolled escalation” of the phenomenon. The campaign against terrorism write Jews and Catholics in their joint statement demands a “common commitment of all religions, irrespective of religious differences”. Catholics and Jews ask men of religion to denounce “every blind and erroneous representation of each other. Our indignation must never lead us to foment prejudices. It’s through a global strategy of combating terrorism and violence that their political, social and ideological causes will in the long run be destroyed”.
