From 9 to 15 September, Loreto will host the Agora for young people of the Mediterranean, the slogan of which is: “His way will pass over the waters”. The theme of this first encounter is: “Blessed are those who are poor before God: God will give them his Kingdom”. The initiative is promoted by the national service for pastoral care to youth, by the CEI office for missionary co-operation between Churches and by the “John Paul II” centre of Loreto. It comes in the context of the reflection and commitment of European Churches for evaluating the Christian roots of the continent and for promoting dialogue and peace in the entire Mediterranean basin. Twenty four countries have been invited to participate in the Mediterranean Agora. Many relators among them Antonio Fazio, governor of the Bank of Italy; Giulio Andreotti, life senator and Dino Boffo, director of the newspaper ‘Avvenire’ are due to participate in a meeting on 13 September on the theme: “St. Thomas More: a debate on young people and the Europe of the future”. On 14 and 15 September, there will be a kind of “event within the event” when the national youth meeting Eurhope 2002 will take place, during which an encounter with Msgr. Angelo Comastri, archbishop of Loreto, and a torch-lit procession are scheduled. Eurhope 2002 will conclude on 15 September with an address by Msgr. Giancarlo Bregantini, bishop of Locri-Gerace, and the testimony of two young people, a Palestinian and an Israeli.
