8th October 2002 will be “European day of parents and school” in all the countries of the Union. Promoted by the EPA (www.epa_parents.org), the European Parents Association, and sponsored by the president of the European Commission, Romano Prodi, the Day is planned to become an annual event and be celebrated in the second week of October. It will involve the ministers of education of the member countries, the public institutions, the educational institutions and the parents’ associations. Its objectives include that of instilling parents with greater awareness of their own responsibilities in the education of their children. It will also be a way of celebrating the school, and enhancing its educational and formative role. France will devote a whole week to the event, planning a day for the renewal of school councils, another for the presentation of school programmes, and a third dedicated to various recreational and cultural activities.
