in brief" "
At the end of their plenary assembly held in Krk from 20 to 23 October, the Croatian bishops issued a final communiqué in which they make some reflections on the post-war situation. “With all due gratitude to the international institutions declares the Croatian Episcopal Conference for everything they have done to put an end to the war and re-establish peace, we are concerned about some judicial processes that do not justify the legitimate hopes that the objective truth about the war and the sufferings of our country may come to light in the post-war period“. “The individual who defends himself point out the Croatian bishops both subjectively and objectively, is in a different position than the person who’s attacking him. If this aspect is forgotten by the international and national tribunals or not sufficiently taken into account, one has the impression that victim and aggressor are being placed on the same level. This is unacceptable because, among other things, it produces mistrust of the government and the international institutions. It should not be forgotten that each court of law also has a teaching aim: to discourage the intentions of those who inflict evil and stimulate good intentions”. “An unjust approach to the problem sows a sense of impotence, mistrust and confusion among citizens”.
