France: an alternative to Halloween” “

The youth of the diocese of Paris have organized themselves to “defend the feast of All Saints” which has been disappearing in recent years, supplanted by the more popular festivity of Halloween. To mark the feast of All Saints they will distribute throughout the city 150,000 copies of the special number of the diocesan paper, entirely dedicated to the Christian significance of death. From 31 October they’ll tour the streets of the capital with the paper “Paris Notre Dame” and on 1st November will congregate in the city’s cemeteries to honour the dead. This initiative is being complemented by another, which enjoyed some success last year: it’s the confection of a special sweet, made on the basis of an eighteenth century recipe. The originality consists in the fact that an image of a saint accompanies free handouts of the sweet.
