The Commissions of the European Parliament will meet in Brussels from Monday 20 to Thursday 23 January 2003. Apart from the presentation in the individual Commissions of strategies relating to the programme of the revolving presidency by representatives of the Greek government, the main points on the agenda are as follows: · The euro area in the world economy and its probable developments in the next five years (Economic and Monetary Commission, rapporteur: Gasoliba exchange of opinions); · Annual evaluation of the application of the stability and convergence programmes (Economic Commission, rapporteur: Trentin exchange of opinions); · European economic situation: Report on the Recommendation of the Executive Commission concerning the major guidelines of economic policy (Economic Commission exchange of opinions); · New proposals for a European strategy on employment (Commission for employment and social affairs, rapporteur: Mann examination of a draft report in the presence of the European Commission); · Citizens of third countries: entry and periods of residence for reasons of study, vocational training or volunteer service (Commission for citizens’ liberties and rights, justice and internal affairs and Commission for employment, rapporteurs: Roure and Sbarbati examination, vote and approval of a draft opinion); · Social responsibility of businesses: contribution of firms to sustainable development (Commission for employment, rapporteur: Bushill-Matthews examination of a draft report); · Reorganization of the fishing sector in the EU: plan of action (Fisheries Commission presentation of a Communication by the Executive Commission); · Protection of the marine environment: sustainable development of the seas, conservation of ecosystems (Fisheries Commission presentation of a Communication by the Executive Commission).
