The campaign “Kilometres of sun” has been running for forty-five years and is aimed at children between the ages of 7 and 11; another campaign, “Lands of the future” is now in its fifteenth year, and involves teenagers (aged 11 to 15). Both are fund-raising campaigns of international solidarity involving French children during Lent. This year some 370,000 children are participating in the “Kilometres of sun” campaign, promoted by Secours Catholique and a further ten organizations. This year’s slogan is “Let’s change!”. The events include exhibitions on fair trade, marches for peace, theatrical performances to support cooperatives in Chiapas (Mexico) and in India, and fund centres of formation in Tibilsi, Georgia. “Lands of the future” is promoted, in turn, by the sixteen movements that form part of the Catholic Committee against Famine and for Development (CCFD). Some 100,000 teenagers in over 500 towns across France are participating in it. Through a series of sporting and cultural events, they obtain sponsorizations for development projects. Last year 900,000 euros were collected. This year the funds will help finance various schools in India.
