Responsibility for the creation” “

The fifth International Conference on ethics and environmental policies on the theme “Business styles and sustainable development” will end in Kiev (Ukraine) on Sunday 6 April. The conference is organized jointly by the Lanza Foundation (Padua, Italy) and the Ukrainian National Ecological Centre (Kiev). The concluding session will be dedicated to the ecumenical theme: “The Christian Churches and responsibility for the creation”. The participants at the conference, which began on 2 April, include representatives of private enterprise and business consortia, trades unions, churches and ecumenical groups, and exponents of the mass media. The questions being debated include: environmental policies, the ethical implications of the consumption of natural resources in industrial processes. “The challenge that businesses have to tackle in this historic period – say the organizers of the meeting – may be summed up in the concept of ‘eco-efficiency’, which means ‘doing more with less’, i.e. producing the same goods and services using less natural resources”.
