“The media for peace”: that’s the theme of the ‘Sunday of the media’, which will be celebrated in Switzerland on 1st June. The event coincides with the World Day of Social Communications, which has as its theme this year: “The means of social communication at the service of a genuine peace in the light of Pacem in Terris“. To emphasize the event, the Commission for the media of the Swiss Bishops’ Conference sent a letter to all parishes, asking them to raise the awareness of the faithful on issues of communication. In this regard, the bishops announced that in 2002, thanks to the generosity of the ecclesial community, 428,000 Swiss francs were collected, equivalent to a rise of 5% over the previous year; the funds were used to finance projects in the field of communication in Switzerland and abroad. The materials being made available for this awareness-raising campaign include posters, bookmarks listing the main services in the field of communication provided by the Swiss Church and information on the “Catholic Prize of Communication”, now in its tenth year. The material will be available from the end of April.
