The southern hemisphere also at the 12th KEK assembly ” “

The 12th assembly of the KEK (Conference of the European Churches) will be held at Trondheim, in Norway, from 25 June to 2 July. “Jesus Christ heals and reconciles. Our witness in Europe”: that’s the theme of the meeting that will be attended by some 800 participants, half of them delegates of KEK’s 126 Orthodox, Protestant, Anglican and Old Catholic member Churches and of its 43 associated organizations. The aim of the meeting is to review the activities of the last six years and define objective and priorities for the future. At the centre of reflection: the future of Europe, youth and the progress of the “Charta Oecumenica”. But another central concern is that of the challenges posed by North/South relations which, in a globalised world, the European Churches will also have to confront. That’s why the assembly will open with a keynote address by Kenneth Kaunda, former president of Zambia. Other speakers will include the ecumenical patriarch of Constantinople Bartholomew I and the archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams. The fringe events at the meeting will also include a session of information-debate on the world Summit of the information society (organized by the European section of the World Association of Christian Communication – WACC), and the prize-giving ceremony for the award of the Templeton Prize “Best journalist of religious information of the year”.
