A meeting recently took place in the Irish capital between the archbishop of Dublin, Cardinal Desmond Connell, and a group of representatives of the Islamic community, including the secretary of the European Council for the fatwa, sheik Hussein Halawa, and the director of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Ireland, Noah Al-Jkadoo. The main point on the agenda was the joint condemnation of the deplorable destruction of life and property caused by the war in Iraq and the appeal to the Christian and Islamic communities to pray that “God, in his mercy”, may grant “all peoples to grow and live in peace”. Agreeing on the importance of resolving the conflicts “with peaceful means, as indicated by the United Nations”, the participants decided to hold a further meeting on this question in Dublin, which will also be open to other religious leaders in the country.
