During its sitting of 3 June, the European Parliament adopted a pair of legislative resolutions concerning two measures presented by the European Commission on the subject of immigration policy. The first concerns conditions for the entry and stay of citizens from third countries for reasons of study, professional training or voluntary work. The text of the Commission examined by the European Parliament enables citizens from third countries to enter member States for the purposes of study, professional training or apprenticeship on the basis of minimum shared regulations, and integrates previously-presented measures concerning immigration for employment or family reunion. The Parliament suggested a periodic report by the Commission on the potentially negative effects arising from the application of this directive, particularly regarding the phenomenon of the brain drain from less-developed countries. The second measure concerns the proposal in any case rejected by the European Parliament decided by the Council defining the criteria and practical procedures for compensating the costs of expelling citizens of third countries.
