Prayer for Africa” “

The attention of the European episcopates in the problems of Africa is growing. After Italy, whose Episcopal Conference expressed its support in recent days for Uganda, a country being bled white by continuous civil wars, now it’s the turn of Cardinal Cormac Murphy-O’Connor, Archbishop of Westminster, to launch, in his diocese, a week of prayer for peace and justice on behalf of the population of another African country in crisis, Zimbabwe. The prayer week, held last week, served – as the cardinal himself explained – “to share the hopes for peace and justice of this people”, to “ask God to bless this nation” and to appeal to the government in power “to show respect for the people and for democracy”.
