The administration of the European Commission has succeeded in concentrating aid on the poor and tackling the question of sustainability in the majority of the programmes examined in India: that’s the finding of the European Auditing Court in a document on the efficiency of the Commission’s management of activities of cooperation in development in India (almost 500 million euros allocated between 1990 and 2001). For 2002-2006 the strategy will be mainly focused on the sectors of education and healthcare, while for the future the Auditing Court recommends that EU aid be focused on the poorer sections of the population and that timetables for the implementation of programmes be established with regular controls. The priorities of the six months’ Italian Presidency, as emerged during a meeting between Italian Foreign Minister Franco Frattini and Latin-American ambassadors, held in Rome on 14 July, include the commitment to revive cooperation with South America in the fields of culture, anti-terrorism, the crackdown on drug trafficking, the control of clandestine immigration, and the intention to conclude the negotiations on the creation of a free-trade zone between Europe and Mercosur (Latin-American organization of economic cooperation of which Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay form part) by December this year. ———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1223 N.ro relativo : 53 Data pubblicazione : 19/07/2003 ———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1223 N.ro relativo : 53 Data pubblicazione : 19/07/2003
