Czech Republic: Assembly of the Catholic Church” “

The first session of the plenary assembly of the Czech Catholic Church ended in recent days at Velehrad. The meeting, with the participation of 91 delegates, represented an unique event, since all the dioceses of the Czech Republic attended it and the laity played an active part in it. The plenary assembly had been convened as an opportunity to reflect on the current situation of the Catholic Church in the Czech Republic and simultaneously to redefine the role of the Church in a society that has radically changed since the fall of the Communism. Bishops, vicars general, vicars episcopal, rectors of the theological faculties, superiors of seminaries, representatives of the male and female religious orders, 30 elected delegates, laity from the individual dioceses and various experts took part in the meeting. The proposals approved by the assembly will form the basis for the work of the commissions of experts: they have the task of analyzing the material collected and to prepare it for the final session.
