The 6th jamboree of the International Union of Guides and Scouts of Europe (IUGSE), better known as “Eurojam”, is to be held in Zelazko, Poland, from 1 to 10 August. The jamboree will be attended by some 8,000 youngsters aged from 11 to 16 from Spain, France, Germany, Austria, Albania, Belgium, Portugal, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Italy, with delegations inter alia from Belarus, Ukraine, Lithuania, Russia, Russia, Bulgaria and Canada. “Duc in Altum” (take to the deep!) is the motto chosen for the IUGSE meeting, recently recognised by the Holy See, following the previous jamborees in Provins in 1960, Marburg am Lahn in 1964, Kergonan in 1968, Velles in 1984 and Viterbo in 1994. “This year’s jamboree is a significant event emphasises Attilio Greco, president of the European Federation because it is being organized for the first time by an international team and hosted in a country of Eastern Europe, Poland, in which scouting was banned up till 1989”. To the young participants various activities of twinning with groups of other nations will be proposed. Also on the programme is a pilgrimage to Czêstochowa on 7 August, where the expected 10,000 participants will renew their act of self-dedication to the Virgin of the Annunciation. Greek-Catholic, Orthodox and Lutheran scouts will also be taking part in the jamboree.
