Following the joint report of the Commission and Council on “adequate and sustainable pensions”, the social affairs and employment Commission of the European Parliament approved a report in which it invited member states to give priority in their own budgets to the funding of pensions systems. In the view of MEPs, it is essential that governments continue to cooperate with the public and private sector and with the representative organizations for a harmonization of pensions systems at the EU level that may also take account of the solidarity between the generations. The measure of the raising of pensionable age ought says the report to be realised gradually and be accompanied by incentives.
