Spain, conference on the Rosary

The Dominicans of Spain and Portugal recently organised an interdisciplinary conference dedicated to the Rosary in León (11-13 September). Held in the sanctuary of the “Virgen del Camino”, patron of the city, the meeting tried to consider the prayer of the Rosary from various points of view: that of other religions, of art and even of publicity. The hundred or so participants (priests, laity, missionaries in Asia, promoters of the Rosary, poets and artists) discovered that there exists a kind of Rosary even in the Anglican Church and among Moslems. One of the most curious communications to the conference was the one on the “Rosary and publicity”. The head of the Edibesa publishing house, José Antonio Martínez Puche, explained that “from Lepanto to the Pope’s Letter on the Rosary, many historical events contributed to diffuse this form of prayer among believers. This ‘publicity’ or promotion of the Rosary was also its strength, because it did not remain an unknown or minority prayer”.
