An informal meeting of Ministers of Culture of the 15 member states of the European Union and of the 10 candidate countries was held in Florence from 1 to 2 October. On the agenda: the protection and promotion of the cultural heritage. During the meeting discussion also focused on the Agenor project: at the roots of Europe, past, present and future. “This project (named after the mythical progenitor of Europe) as explained on www.ueitalia2003.it is aimed at establishing a tool for the knowledge and promotion of the European cultural identity, obtained through the creation of a thesaurus of the values of European civilization, a kind of computerized storehouse or catalogue, accessible on line (the values in question shall be freely identified by States in their respective cultures, as a contribution to the formation of a common civilization)”.
