The Justice and General Affairs Council, meeting on 6 November, gave the go-ahead to the entry into operation of the European task force charged with closely monitoring information on real or presumed terrorist groups in the territory of the EU with a view to preventing possible terrorist attacks. The so-called “anti-terrorism 007” under the control of Europol and national investigative police forces are “experts in counter-terrorism in the member states”. The initiative of Ministers of the Interior forms part of the commitments assumed by the Union in the campaign against international terrorism after 11 September and the organizations that financial support it. Attention to the issue remains high in the EU: a seminar on the roots of terrorism, organized by Belgium’s Royal Institute for International Relations, is scheduled to be held in Brussels on 20 November.
