Cooperation with Asia and Latin America ” “

The EP adopted, on 6 November, a report on cooperation between the Community and the countries of Latin America and Asia. In particular, priority is given to the poorest countries and to the poorest sectors in the partner countries. As to the budgetary allocation, a modification is proposed, aimed at sanctioning a breakdown that would allocate 60% of the funds to Asia and 40% to Latin America. 35% of the funds allocated should be spent on social infrastructure, at least 20% on basic healthcare and primary schooling. As regards Latin America, a Fund for bi-regional solidarity should also be created, aimed at the management and financing of sectorial programmes regarding healthcare, education and the campaign against extreme poverty, with priority being given to the countries and regions with the lowest per capita income and with marked social inequalities.
