The closing Conference of the European Year of people with disabilities is due to be held in Rome, in the San Giovanni Addolorata complex, from 5 to 7 December. Five hundred delegates from all over Europe are expected to participate in it. Its aim is to review the many different projects and activities launched on behalf of the disabled during 2003, and try to define “future strategies in the framework of an enlarged Europe”. The Conference “will focus on three areas: rights of the disabled; support for the families of the disabled; access to everything for everyone”. Events of recent months include the session of the Parliament of the disabled, held in the debating chamber of the European Parliament in Brussels in November. The Conference will also be attended by the delegates of many associations and groups of volunteer service of Christian inspiration active in the sector. In our next number of SirEurope we will publish a feature on the achievements of the European Year of the Disabled.
