“To receive the gift of peace, a courageous search for unity among Christians is needed, in spite of the difficulties encountered on the way”. That’s how the Belgian bishops present, on the official website of the Belgian Episcopal Conference, the packed calendar of events promoted by the Belgian dioceses for the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity (see SIR no.3). The interconfessional committee of Brussels has organized a prayer vigil in the Belgian capital on Thursday, 22 January, and has assigned the sermon to the representative of the Anglican Communion. The Committee has also prepared a little brochure for the parishes and communities of the city with texts, prayers and meditations proposed for each day during the Week. Prayer evenings, moments of reflection, ecumenical celebrations, a weekend of formation and an ecumenical exhibition on the Bible are some of the other events being promoted in the various parishes of the city and animated by Catholics, Evangelics and Anglicans.
