Orthodox-Catholic dialogue: St. Egidio’s meeting with Alexis II” “

A few days after the meeting between Cardinal Walter Kasper, president of the Pontifical Council for Christian Unity, and Alexis II, a Catholic delegation of the St. Egidio Community, led by the bishop of Terni, Msgr. Vincenzo Paglia, was received by the Patriarch in Moscow. During the meeting – says a press release issued by the office of the Patriarchate in Brussels – relations between the Orthodox and Catholic Churches and prospects for collaboration between the St. Egidio Community and the Patriarchate of Moscow were discussed. Recalling the international Conference on “Sanctity and charity in Christianity of East and West” held in Terni in 2002, Bishop Paglia emphasised the contribution that can be made to the development of ecumenical relations by the joint organization of conferences and meetings. “We believe – said Msgr. Paglia – that the participation of Orthodoxy in the construction of the new Europe and of the whole world is indispensable. Brotherly relations between the Churches of East and West need to be strengthened today, to make the voice of Christ heard in the world. That is essential not only from an ecclesial point of view, but also for the promotion of peace and concord among peoples.
