The citizens of Ljubljana will decide with a referendum on 4 April whether to authorize or not the Moslem minority to build the first mosque in Slovenia. The decision to hold “a referendum on the building of an Islamic religious and cultural centre” on the outskirts of the capital was taken by the town council of Ljubljana, following a petition signed by some 12,000 citizens. The city’s mayor, Danica Simsic, wishes however to ask for a ruling from the Constitutional Court whether such a referendum violates human rights. “The fact he said that a majority should decide the rights of a minority arouses misgivings”.
