An international symposium as part of the Katholikentag of the Catholics of Central Europe (MEKT) is due to open in Brno in the Czech Republic on 12 March. “How will we live tomorrow? Strategies in view of the demographic trend in Europe” is the title of the meeting, which will end on 14 March. The symposium, in which Bishop Klaus Küng of Feldkirch in Austria among others will take part, is being organized by the Episcopal conferences of the Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia and Austria. “Marriage, the family and children: between desire and reality” is one of the themes being discussed by the speakers. Thirteen workshops will discuss various aspects of the family, from the role of the elderly to the relation with disability, and the conflict with professional life. The symposium continues the cycle of conferences, eight in all, being held in each of the countries participating in MEKT. To the family and in particular the pastoral care of marriage and the family – will also be dedicated the next meeting, due to be held in Zagreb from 23 to 25 March.
