The Association of Diabetics of Catalonia is offering 40 diabetic children the chance to enjoy the experience of a residential holiday during Holy Week. The chosen children, aged from 6 to 12, will be under glycaemic control and their proper dietary and insulin requirements will be ensured. The week, due to end on 7 April, is aimed at “helping them to understand their illness and trying to ensure that they can live as normal a life as possible, by reducing diabetes and chronic complications”, explains Montserrat Soley, coordinator of the holiday. The residential centres in which the diabetic children will be received as guests are also open to their brothers, sisters or cousins. “The fact that the place of the holiday is in the midst of the mountains of Montseny, far from hospital tensions or family anxieties, will facilitate the normalization of diabetes”, says Soley. The Association does not regard itself as confessional and is open to all those who wish to participate in the Easter holiday “in their own way”.
