EU-USA relations” “

In preparation for the EU-USA summit due to be held in Dublin on 25-26 June, the European Parliament has adopted a resolution on the state of the transatlantic partnership. In this resolution the EP has expressed its conviction that – despite some fundamental divergences -, “there are more reasons for union than division between Europe and the United States” and underlined the importance of “an exhaustive dialogue on cooperation at the political and economic, defence and security levels between the two sides”. MEPs also proposed the setting up of a transatlantic “action community” on regional and global cooperation which would tackle such priorities as: the reinforcement of the UNO; peace in the wider Middle East; the crackdown on terrorism; the containment of the proliferation of nuclear, chemical and biological weapons; the campaign against Aids; the long-term integration of China in the international community; the pursuit of the transformation of Russia into a democratic state; and the future of the international penal tribunal. The Parliament repeated its invitation, in particular to the EU and the USA, to exert all their influence and political clout to force all those who still oppose the peace process in the Middle East to undertake decisive actions in favour of peace.
