Irish Presidency "meets" the poor” “

The “Third European Meeting of those suffering from poverty” was held in Brussels on 28-29 May. Promoted by the Irish Presidency of the Union in liaison with the European Commission and the associations involved in combating poverty and social exclusion, the meeting – which follows up the previous meetings held under the Belgian and Greek Presidencies – was characterised by the massive participation of “persons who have to cope with the reality of poverty and exclusion and who have begun to collaborate with others to improve their own situation, and that of their families and communities”. During the two-day meeting, the participants had an opportunity to exchange their daily experiences of commitment in society and develop reflection and discussion on problems of poverty and social exclusion. The main objective of the meeting, and those that will follow it under future Presidencies, is putting in place new ways of promoting the participation of everyone at all levels of poverty and social exclusion, by reinforcing or creating structured networks to facilitate their involvement in the decision-making processes, both in terms of the local dimension and in terms of the formulation, control and evaluation of National Plans for Social Inclusion. ———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1303 N.ro relativo : 43 Data pubblicazione : 09/06/2004
