“The European Union ought not to consider migration a problem but a phenomenon that is linked to human nature and that has always existed in the world throughout history”: that’s the message spelt out by the representatives of the Churches at the Seminar held in Brussels on 21 June, promoted by the “Church and Society Commission” of the CEC, the Commission of the Churches for Migrants in (CCME) and the Conference of the bishops of the European Community (COMECE). The experts of the Churches and the representatives of the EU spoke of the efforts that need to be made to promote a better understanding of the migratory phenomenon. They also recalled that the new European Constitution offers new tools to develop a common approach to this question in Europe. EU Commissioner Jan Figel also participated in the Seminar.
