The climate of the planet” “

http://europa.eu.int/comm/environment/climat/future_action.htm That’s the internet site on which the Commission launched (on 14 September) an “on-line consultation” on policies relating to climate change after 2012, the year in which the first phase of the Kyoto Protocol on polluting emissions will come to an end. The consultation – open to all interested parties (citizens, businesses, political decision-makers, scientific authorities, NGOs) until 31 October – has the objective of furnishing the competent services of the European Union with useful information for the formulation of measures of environmental protection at the Community and international level. Two of the fundamental questions posed by the electronic forum are as follows: “What ought to be the position of the EU on the fight against climate change in future? How ought EU countries to cooperate in countering climate change after 2012, when the current objectives fixed by the Kyoto Protocol ought to have been achieved?”. The results of the consultation will be presented and analysed in the course of a Conference in mid-November.
