More responsibility for young women” “

The Forum of European Youth and European Women’s Lobby was held in Brussels on 21 September. The Forum tackled the theme of the role of women in European public life, including their participation in politics and in the world of information. In particular, a study was presented on the “barriers that persist for the world of women”; it contains a series of proposals to counter the discrimination and stereotyping of essentially cultural and sexual nature “due both to formal and informal education” to which women are still subject. Worth pointing out is the paragraph of the Conclusions that asks the mass media to adopt an ethical code to put an end to so-called “visual harassment”, in other words “the use made by the media of the image of women in public spaces”. Through the European Women’s Lobby (whose president is normally the wife of the President of the Commission), the Forum intends to collaborate with the EU institutions to establish a network of support for European women both at the local and Community level.
