Listed below are the principal events that concern the Catholic Church and the other Christian Churches of Europe in the month of October. 4 Second session of hearings of European Commissioners designate, before the European Parliament (4-7), in Brussels. 5 Ceremony for the entry of Monaco into the Council of Europe, 46th member of the Pan-European body. 6 First European encounter of Youth Groups for the adoration of the Eucharist (6-10), promoted by the youth pastoral care service of the Vicariate of Rome on the theme: “The Eucharist, source and culmination of the mission”, in Rome; the meeting is part of the process of preparation for the 20th WYD in Cologne – Publication of the Report of the European Commission on Turkey’s compliance with the “criteria of Copenhagen” for joining the European Union – Frankfurt International Book Fair (6-10). 7 Meeting of the Association of European Radio & Television Broadcasters (7-10), at Bratislava, on the theme: “ Europe, the task, the tendencies, the instruments“. 8 Congress of the French Protestant Federation (8-10) as part of the CEC-KEK, Clermont Ferrand. 9 Eucharistic liturgy for the consecration of the Hungarian chapel “Communio Sanctorum”, in the Basilica of “Divine Mercy” in Cracovia-Lagiewniki, in the presence of all Hungarian bishops. 10 29th Plenary Assembly of the Croatian Episcopal Conference (10-14), at Zadar/Zara – Parliamentary Elections in Lithuania. 12 Commemorative symposium “In Memoriam Petri Tocanel”, organised by the Romanian Embassy to the Holy See and by the Order of Friars Minor Conventual, in Rome. 14 Assembly of the European Conference of Christian Radio Stations (14-17), with the celebration of the tenth anniversary of the association, in Rome. 15 Conference (15-17) with the title “Crossing frontiers: culture religion and the media”, organised by the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe and by the European Union of Radio & Television, as part of the Europa Prize 2004, in Berlin. 18 International Priests’ Congress (18-22) organised by the Congregation for the Clergy on the theme: “Priests, creators of saints for the new millennium, in the footsteps of the Apostle Paul”, in Malta (La Valletta). 22 Conference of the Commission for Migrants (CCME) of the CEC-KEK, in Frankfurt. 23 “Paris-Toussaint 2004” (23 Oct. – 1 Nov.), a week of exchanges and activities on urban evangelisation, promoted in Paris by the local archdiocese. The initiative is part of a series of reflections and activities that began in Vienna in 2003 and are destined to continue in Lisbon (2005), Brussels (2006) and Budapest (2007). 28 Audience of the Pope with the president of the European Commission, Romano Prodi. 29 Signing of the European Constitution, in Rome – Meeting (29-31), promoted by the Jacques Maritain International Institute and the Lions Club on the theme: “ Peace in time of war.
