Youth and drugs” “

The General Directorate for Justice and Internal Affairs of the European Commission has published a report on the development of the attitude of youth to drugs in the 15-member EU from 2002 to the present day. The most significant findings of the survey are the following: curiosity and emulation remain the main reasons that induce the young to try out a drug; it’s very easy to procure drugs during evening and/or nocturnal hours; one young person out of two has had the chance to make use of cannabis in 2004, while one in three did in fact make use of it; the consumption rates of drugs are higher among males; one young person out of three thinks there is a very close relation of cause and effect between alcohol, tobacco and drugs (often placed on the same level of danger); more than half of those interviewed think that a reinforcement of policies for the rehabilitation of drug addicts is necessary; some 60% of the young interviewed declare themselves satisfied with the laws against drug traffickers. The Commission has said it wants to use the results of such surveys for the formulation of the future “European strategy of combating drugs 2005 – 2012”. The document, based on the data of two surveys conducted by Eurobarometer on a sample of 7659 young people aged between 15 and 24, is available on the website http://europa.eu.int/comm/justice_home/news/intro/news_intro_en.htm ———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1335 N.ro relativo : 75 Data pubblicazione : 27/10/2004
