Eurostat the EU statistical bureau has published a “Report on unemployment in the Regions of the European Union and in the candidate countries in 2003”, providing a statistical picture of the situation of unemployment in the 254 Regions of the 25-member EU. The data are divided into various categories: general unemployment, female unemployment, and unemployment among youth aged from 15 to 24. They present a situation of great regional disparity, even within the same member state. The autonomous Province of Bolzano, with 2%, heads the classification with the lowest unemployment, followed by the Austrian Region of Salzburg, Zeeland in Holland and the Tyrol (again in Austria). At the opposite extreme is the French overseas Region of Reunion with 31.8%, followed by Guadalupe and two Polish Regions with percentages in excess of 25%. As regards female unemployment, the best is again Salzburg (2.3%), the worst Calabria where exactly one working woman out of three is without a job. As for youth unemployment, while less than five youth out of every hundred are without work in Tyrol, and in a further three Austrian Regions, the Regions of Campania, Calabria, Guadalupe, Sicily, Reunion and Zachodnipomorskie (Poland) have rates of between 58.4% and 51.5%. The Austrian Tyrol is the one Region present among the ten best in all categories: Reunion, Guadalupe, Calabria and Zachnodniopomorskie (Poland) are the four Regions that regularly recur among the last ten in each category. ———————————————————————————————————– Sir Europa (English) N.ro assoluto : 1341 N.ro relativo : 81 Data pubblicazione : 17/11/2004
