“Dressing the Blessed Virgin Mary as a young Jewish woman, preparing the Crib at Christmas, or distributing gifts for Epiphany, are all good things, but it’s also important to understand their original sense”, says Felipe Reina, organizer of a liturgical workshop for members of the confraternities in the diocese of Málaga, in Andalusia (Spain), referring to some of the contents of this project, organized by the diocesan delegation of “Hermandades e Confraternite”. The members of the confraternities are considered the soul of popular devotion in Andalucia and are responsible for the practical organization of religious celebrations. “It’s they themselves who requested a liturgical formation”, explains Reina. The liturgical course will elucidate the highpoints of the Liturgical Year. The participants mainly consist of “albaceas”, i.e. the individuals responsible for organizing liturgies in each confraternity. Among the questions addressed in the course: “how to bless the crib” or “how to celebrate the feast of the Presentation of the Child Jesus to the Temple”. “This year of the Eucharist is propitious for speaking of the form and content of the eucharistic celebrations”, says Reina. The course will continue during Lent.
