“On the wings of the dove: against violence on women and children” is the slogan of the campaign launched in Geneva on 24 November by the Conference of European Churches (CEC), the World Council of Churches (WCC), the World Alliance of Reformed Churches (WARC) and the Lutheran World Federation. Up till 10 December all the churches will dedicate themselves to the organization of public events to raise awareness of the problem of the violence committed on women and children and the consequences this causes. Prayer vigils, exhibitions and debates are also planned. “The CEC declared Eva-Sibylle Vogel-Mfato of the ‘women’s’ office of CEC has always supported these campaigns through various initiatives, not least a pastoral letter, written in 1999, together with the Council of the European Episcopal Conferences (CCEE), to heighten awareness of the diffusion of this phenomenon that sees women ever more vulnerable, especially in areas of conflict, also in Europe”.
